Director of Operations
Ken Merkel is from Buffalo, NY and moved to Charleston in 1997. Ken has more than 30 years in hospitality and joined Avocet Hospitality in January, 2009.
He has extensive experience in high-end luxury hotels, working at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Jefferson Hotel and the Hermitage Hotel. He has a unique insight of resort and country club operations, with a wide range of experience in food service environments in both the front and back of house.
He has been involved with successful openings of both the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island and the new Clubhouse at the Ocean Course, and the hosting of the 2007 Senior PGA Championship. In his spare time, you can find Ken fishing in his back yard for a redfish named Walter.
